Meeting point: 08:45 a.m. at the base station of the Wurzeralm funicular railway, Spital am Pyhrn  (registration necessarily required!)
Description:
We cross the ski area on the Wurzeralm before we dive into the snow-covered old forest with larch and pine trees. Here we feel a breath of eternity, emanating from this landscape and the magnificent trees which are "rocking" the boulders. A stone pine takes at least 50 years to become sexually mature, so it is not surprising that the average age is several hundred years. They have developed special survival strategies to survive the cold winter months in the high mountains. Dying trees are creating favourable conditions for the next generation, nothing gets lost.

The winter landscape is a special attraction, the abandoned derelict alpine huts of Purgstall and bizarre karst formations are buried under a thick blanket of snow and arouse our imagination, only huge boulders and karst streets look out from the snow cap. We enjoy the fresh mountain air and the clear view to the surrounding peaks, the sun is shining. Except for the sound of our snowshoes, it is quiet, only occasionally we hear a snow sparrow chirping, the "wize-wize" of a coal tit or a fir-tree joker. Everything seems so peaceful and quiet.
