Meeting point: 09:30 a.m. at valley station of Krippenstein cable car (registration necessarily required!)
Description:
We discover the Dachstein plateau area, enjoying the amazing panoramic view over the multi-summited massif and its glaciers – a perfect scenic match!

Reaching one of the most beautiful scenery in Europe by cable car, where we leave the mountain station Krippenstein and cross the ski area to hike the extensive, remote and lonely karst plateau with our snowshoes. Funnel-shaped sinkholes, sharp-edged limestone cliffs, small tarns as well as the well-trodden footpaths have disappeared under a thick blanket of snow. Only mighty mountain shapes and scattered tops of mountain pines stick out from it. Thanks to the snow, which has compensated all bumps, we hike almost effortlessly through this fascinating landscape, uphill, downhill, and enjoying the superb panoramic view.

Sun and wind create bizarre forms of snow and ice, they shape the winter landscape in an unmistakable way. For us they are exciting photo opportunities.

Given favourable weather we hike over the karst plateau "Am Stein" towards Heilbronner Kreuz. This was built to commemorate ten students and three teachers from Heilbronn. On Maundy Thursday, 1954, despite repeated warnings, they ascended to hike the Dachstein plateau when they got lost in a blizzard and froze to death. It took nine days when the rescue teams found the first victims.

Afterwards there is some free time on your own disposal, so that you can explore some more view points on your own or to have a snack in the restaurant.

End: approximately 03:30 p.m. at the valley station of Krippenstein cable car
